As with all cute animal films, Bella talks…well, we hear her inner thoughts. Voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard, we gain an understanding of how humans think dogs think…what? Bella is fundamentally an optimistic, fun-loving child, who is fiercely loyal, naïve about the human world, and sees everything as a game. Saw previews on TV shortly before the movie was released in theatres & that's why I wanted the DVD!
How Bella is able to get back to Lucas is a testament to the fact that it is the journey that earns the destination its importance. And Bella’s journey only enriched her love for Lucas, making her, as well as us, understand the importance of togetherness, care, hope, survival, and a never-give-up attitude. The pack of homeless dogs symbolizes that sometimes people we do not know turn out to be a blessing in disguise. The dogs helped Bella by giving her companionship, accepting her as a member of their group, and sharing with her. Cleared payment cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab.

And who among us hasn’t interpreted a dog’s thoughts, elaborated on them and even spoken them out loud? I can’t be the only weirdo here and I won’t be the last one to cry during this film’s end credits. Lucas (John Hauer-King) is an aspiring med student and works as a volunteer at the local Colorado VA Hospital, where his mother, Terri , attends her VA support group. Across the street from there home is a demolished residential site and underneath the rubble is a family of cats. One day a pregnant dog joins the cat family and gives birth to a litter. As the dogs/cats/puppies/kittens, co-exist, the building developer invades the animals’ underground home.

All of the dogs are either chased off or captured by the animal control officer. Alone, the mother cat lets Bella nurse along with her kittens, but this situation can’t last long. Bella makes it home alive after the 400-mile journey that cost her two winters. Two winters only stress the amount of time Bella and Lucas have spent separated from one another. The film shows Bella’s journey, but we do not know anything about Lucas or whether he searches for Bella and for how long. Yet, all it takes is a single second for him to realize his love for Bella, something that he probably kept hidden all this time only to save himself the pain of her absence.
When Shubhabrata is not breaking his head trying to find out more about the trending movies , he spends time with his mom and dad, surrounds himself with books, listens to songs, plays games and writes poems (P.S- Tries to). He loves going for walks, prefers full sleeve t-shirts and seldom wishes he was Peter Parker's neighbor or had a small hut of his own in the suburbs of Dublin, Ireland. The following day, Bella leaves the house premises running after a squirrel and is caught by Chuck, who takes him to the local animal shelter. Lucas pays the fine and picks Bella up, but she is told that if she is captured again, she will be euthanized. Lucas thus decides to send Bella away to Farmington, New Mexico, at Olivia’s aunt’s place. She shall remain there until Lucas, and his mom are able to find a new home outside Denver’s jurisdiction.
Meanwhile Big Kitten is revealed to be a mother herself now and she and her cub watch over the city of Denver. I also wish the gay couple that Bella crosses paths with (a detail all too rare in hetero-normative mainstream family films) were allowed a bit more natural intimacy that a straight couple would have been free to display. After this, she encounters a baby cougar whose mother was shot by two hunters.
Up next in the series I call Movies-I’m-Forced-To-See-Because-I-Have-A-Kid is A Dog’s Way Home. I did not choose to see this film, but I did, and it’s exactly what you’d expect it to be. It’s the story of a cute dog trying to find her way home symbolizing the bond between dogs and their owners. The Disney movie "Incredible Journey" was made a long time ago and this may have some similarities. But the story, filming, and constant adventure are all modern and will keep your interest.
Kittens, puppies, veterans, the homeless, a loving same-sex couple are all on the checklist of emotional manipulation and then some. A Dogs Way Home is a great movie about not just a dog, though humanity as well. Will usually ship within 3 business days of receiving cleared payment. There are no featured audience reviews for A Dog's Way Home at this time.
Leaving that aside, Smith’s film is still one you can’t help but root for, as the screenwriters Cathryn Michon and W. Bruce Cameron (also the author and scribe of the trilogy that includes “A Dog’s Purpose” and “A Dog’s Journey”) lovingly braid in numerous humanist themes into their tale at every turn. He keeps Bella on a leash and even chains her to prevent her from leaving his side. The fact that Axel passes away, leaving Bella chained to his lifeless body, seems to portray how such a kind of oppression can take its toll even after the person passes away.
Over the years, Lucas plays with and takes care of Bella. However, Lucas also continues to feed the cats at the old house, putting himself in the crosshairs of Günter Beckenbauer, the man who intends to demolish the house. He even calls the city about the cats who live there, which delays the demolition.
A female dog travels four hundred miles in search of her owner throughout a Colorado wilderness. A Dog's Way Home grossed $42 million in the United States and Canada, and $38.7 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $80.7 million, against a production budget of $18 million. Lucas and Olivia are happy to see Bella and manage to move into a house in Golden, where they allow Pitbulls. Meanwhile, Big Kitten is revealed to be a mother herself as she and her daughter watch over the city of Denver.
Dog has an epic adventure trying to return to her "person" - lots of belly laughs, lots of tears. Plot and storyline was great, my 8 year old twin girls thoroughly loved it . On November 7, 2017, Ashley Judd, Edward James Olmos and several others were cast in the film. On January 24, 2018, Barry Watson was added to play Gavin.
