Foster families receive free admission with proof of a current foster home license. The design lab includes an architecture area stocked with supplies from 3DuxDesign, a company founded by siblings Ayana and Ethan Klein, two of the featured speakers at a preview party celebrating the space Thursday. 3Dux building sets consist of cardboard shapes and simple connectors that allow kids the flexibility to build and embellish an endless variety of structures. It takes more than one day to fully explore and enjoy the scholastic treasures found on every floor of the Magic House. Exhibitions such as the Bubble Room and the Lewis and Clark Adventure are designed to educate and entertain people of all ages. The pin point wall allows curious onlookers to create 3D impressions of themselves, and the Jack and the Beanstalk area gives kids the opportunity to climb a three-story beanstalk just like the hero from the classic children’s tale.

For kids ages 0-24 months, there is a special baby and toddler play area near the Children’s Village that is totally safe for them to crawl and explore! Be aware that age restrictions are not strictly enforced, so older siblings may join as well (pros and cons there!). I know of a couple ways to get in the Magic House for free, and couple more places where you can find coupons. The good news/bad news is that temporary safety regulations have limited their visitor capacity to 150 people per session. This means tickets could go super fast, but also that there will be no crowds. They’ve made a lot of improvements to the house while waiting to reopen, including touchless faucets and toe kicks for bathroom doors. In 2008, a 25,000 square foot expansion with even more exhibits opened. The Magic House welcomes 400,000 visitors a year, making it one of the nation's most popular children’s museums. Through a series of expansions, The Magic House has grown from 5,500 square feet to 55,000 square feet, featured hundreds of new exhibits, and have welcomed over 15 million visitors!
In 1997, the Museum underwent a major expansion which added the Children's Village, Math Path, Fitness Center and an Education Wing. In 2001, The Magic House opened Backyard Magic, an outdoor facility featuring a Victorian Education Pavilion, a Children's Sculpture Garden and an outdoor Exhibit Patio. Again in 2008, The Magic House underwent a major expansion as it added a 25,000-square-foot addition nearly doubling the size of the Museum.[5] In 2005, "A Little Bit of Magic" was transformed into the hands on STEM exhibit, WonderWorks. In 2019, to further extend the reach of The Magic House in the community, we opened MADE for Kids, a new satellite location created for children ages 4-14 on the north side of Delmar Boulevard in the City of St. Louis. Since it opened, MADE for Kids has served over 60,000 visitors and developed important community partnerships in the region and implemented a workforce development initiative for neighborhood youth.

The Magic House offers hands-on learning experiences for children that spark imagination, enhance creativity and develop problem-solving skills. If you’re of a certain age and you grew up in St. Louis, chances are the Magic House grew along with you. It opened on Oct. 16, 1979, in a 5,500 square foot Victorian mansion, and after several expansions, it’s now 55,000 square feet.
You can leave your child’s paintings there to dry while you explore the rest of the museum! Just don’t forget to pick them up before you head out, or you WILL be making a return trip at the insistence of your children (speaking from experience). For just MADE for Kids, there’s an annual membership ($75, two adults, four children). Finally, there are usually a couple of flash sales each year for the higher membership levels, so following The Magic House on social media is a good idea. An annual membership provides admission to the Museum, exclusive events, discounts and other perks!

The interactive space is the Kirkwood children museum’s first satellite location. The Magic House, as well as MADE for Kids, also has Free Family Nights the 3rd Friday of every month from 5-8 pm!
The design lab offers tools to create stop-motion videos and features a video game design station created by St. Louis–based game developer Pixel Press. Kids can also draw up 3-D prototypes of gears and gadgets using Tinkercad, a computer-based design tool, and print out their creations on a 3-D printer. You don’t have to be a kid to appreciate all the wonder and knowledge that is packed inside the walls of St. Louis’ Magic House. Regular admission for The Magic House @ MADE is $5 for visitors 1 and older. Family Memberships, offering unlimited admission to The Magic House @ MADE, are available beginning at $50 a year. Active-duty U.S. military and their immediate family members (military ID holder and five immediate family members) receive free admission.
